The Ferrum HYPSOS is an adjustable DC power supply for compatible DACs, headphone amplifiers, preamps, phono stages, and other audio components. Its hybrid design combines switching regulation with a low-noise linear output stage, while four-wire sensing maintains the selected voltage at your component’s power input. A 5–30V output range, selectable polarity, and fine voltage adjustment let HYPSOS serve a wide range of devices.
The HYPSOS pairs an efficient switching supply with a custom low-dropout linear regulator. The switching stage operates at a nominal 1MHz and feeds the linear stage through additional filtering. The final regulator maintains the output voltage with less than 1V between its input and output, reducing heat dissipation while providing low-noise power and a fast response to changing current demands.
A power cable’s resistance can cause voltage to drop as a component draws more current. Ferrum’s 4T sensing uses two conductors to deliver power and two to measure voltage at the connected device. This feedback allows HYPSOS to compensate for cable resistance and maintain the selected voltage at the component’s DC input. The included low-inductance Canare cable also helps the supply respond to rapid changes in current demand.
The HYPSOS provides continuously adjustable output from 5V to 30V, with up to 6A of continuous current subject to its 80W continuous power limit. Preconfigured device profiles simplify voltage selection for supported products. Manual configuration lets you specify voltage and polarity for other compatible components, provided their connector and power requirements match the supply.
Sweet Spot Tuning lets you adjust output voltage in 0.1V steps to explore how a compatible component responds to changes in its supply voltage. Device profiles use the manufacturer’s permissible voltage range when available. Otherwise, HYPSOS provides adjustment within ±5% of the nominal setting. Any adjustment should remain within the connected component’s specified operating range.
Spread Spectrum Mode varies the switching frequency by 20% of its nominal value. This distributes switching noise across a broader frequency range, reducing the magnitude of individual noise peaks and harmonics. The mode can be enabled or disabled through the HYPSOS controls.
A two-stage filter at the IEC inlet attenuates incoming power-line noise. Additional filters before and after the switching stage help contain switching interference, while the final linear regulator provides further ripple rejection. Together, these stages reduce disturbances that could reach the powered component.
Automatic Transformer Voltage Adjust configures the transformer for incoming 115V or 230V mains at startup. Electronic Output Voltage Polarity Switch lets you select the DC polarity required by your component without a separate polarity adapter.
The HYPSOS supports compatible Apple TV remotes and trigger input/output connections for coordinated power control. Its standby automation can also operate without a dedicated trigger connection, giving you several ways to integrate power switching into your audio system.
A microprocessor monitors output voltage, current, and delivered power. Overcurrent, overvoltage, and short-circuit protection help safeguard the supply and connected equipment. HYPSOS supports brief current peaks up to 9A, while continuous operation remains governed by its 6A current ceiling and 80W power limit.
